They live without pain

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

We’ve just finished an exciting, four commercial, series for the Pardee Orthopedic Center of Excellence. The commercials are simply a conversation between our surgeons and their patients. You may even recognize some of the people. You’ll see Dr. John Hicks and Dr. Werner Brooks from Blue Ridge Bone & Joint. You’ll also see Dr. Amal Das and Dr. Brian Seng from Hendersonville Orthopaedics. You can find other patient testimonials here. We are proud of our physicians and services and it helps that our programs are nationally recognized as well.

“We want to express our sincere appreciation”::Orthopedics

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

We received the message below from a patient and her husband expressing their sincere thanks to Pardee Hospital, Dr. Brooks and our amazing orthopedic team.   It’s always great to hear about such a wonderful experience.

“We want to express our sincere appreciation for the care, diligence, and professionalism exhibited by the entire staff of the Orthopedic Unit at Pardee.

Dr. Brooks replaced Patsy’s left knee on February 7, 2011 and her right knee last year, March 1, 2010.  Both of these experiences were positive. When one is surrounded by a caring group, a wonderful doctor and the rehabilitation staff, healing is much faster and pleasant.

The Pardee organization is first class and we appreciate the comfort that it provided.”

Sincerely,

Patsy and Charlie

Peter Mangone M.D., pioneers arthroscopic lateral ankle ligament reconstruction

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Peter Mangone, M.D., with Blue Ridge Bone and Joint in Hendersonville, has been recognized as a pioneer in arthroscopic lateral ankle ligament reconstruction.  This comes after the acceptance of a manuscript he co-authored entitled ‘Arthroscopic Lateral Ankle Ligament Reconstruction’ that will be featured in Techniques in Foot and Ankle Surgery later this year.

Mangone began his research in 2007.  “I knew there had been great advancements in arthroscopic techniques for instability over the last twenty years in other joints such as the shoulder and the knee.  I felt it was time to start bringing those concepts to the world of foot and ankle surgery,” said Mangone.

Dr. Mangone has also announced his partnership with Jorge Acevedo M.D., of West Palm Beach, Florida, to further develop this technique.  Together, they plan to start hands-on training of this advanced arthroscopic technique to other surgeons in the United States as well as internationally later this year.

Karen Winch receives aquatic therapy certification

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Karen Winch, an aquatic therapist at the Pardee Rehab and Wellness Center, recently became certified in aquatic therapeutic exercise.  Winch is the only aquatic therapist in Western North Carolina and one of only 17 in the entire state to have received this certification.

Winch has been with Pardee for 12 years.  She began working as a physical therapist assistant and moved over to aquatics in 2006.  Winch received her certification through the Aquatic Therapy Rehabilitation Institute.

“The certification required 15 hours of hands-on work and classroom education, followed by a comprehensive exam,” said Winch.  “In a year, I will go back to continue my education and renew the certification.”

Winch stated that her certification and the recent certification of other Pardee associates show the hospital’s encouragement and interest in continuing education.  The addition of Winch’s certification will allow for the Pardee Rehab and Wellness Center to offer state-of-the-art aquatics rehabilitation therapy where each patient receives a tailored program specific to their diagnosis.

Girls on the Run

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Kym Schifino, PT, at the Pardee Rehab and Wellness Center recently began volunteering her time as an assistant coach for the Hendersonville Girls on the Run running group.  Girls on the Run is offered to girls in third through fifth grade throughout Western N.C.

Schifino is making her coaching debut working with girls from Hendersonville Elementary School, two times per week.  The running organization is a 12-week, 24-lesson program combining training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with self-esteem enhancing and uplifting team exercise activities.  The mission of Girls on the Run is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

“The mission of the program really resonated with me when I first heard about it; a passion for running and fitness (encouraged by my dad) kept me focused and out of trouble growing up,” said Schifino.  “Running continues to be an outlet for stress relief and a fun way to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  I’m excited to help young girls discover that for themselves.”
