Conquering insomnia, a free seminar offered at the Pardee Health Education Center

A discussion about conquering insomnia will be offered by Dr. Valerie Levine, a licensed psychologist, on Friday, May 11, from 12 – 1 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center.

Pardee Health Education Center offers Lean, Mean, Thinking Machine

Lean, Mean, Thinking Machine is a free seminar about integrating exercise into a weekly routine for mind and body health that will be held on Thurs., April 26, from 12:30- 2 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall.

“Before modern conveniences and distractions, we were so much more active as a society. Now, we have to make a dedication to the effort of getting and staying healthy. You are living in the only body you’ll ever get. Attending this lecture will give you the motivational jump-start you need to start exercising and reaping the benefits—results start immediately,” said instructor Emily Van Eman, Pardee Rehab and Wellness’ Medical Wellness Coordinator.

Exercise not only tones muscles, lowers blood pressure, and causes better sleep, but it’s also the number one way to improve cognition and learning skills. This lecture and interactive lesson will help get over the “I know I need to but I don’t have time” hurdle. These important tips and tutorials will also help attendees learn how to rearrange their schedule toward fitness and happiness. The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease offered at Pardee Health Education Center

The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease will be available on Monday, Mar. 26, from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall.

When someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, friends and families have many questions about caring for their loved one. This Alzheimer’s Association sponsored program will answer questions about memory care as well as offer suggested planning assistance to meet challenges that often come with these conditions. This will be an ongoing educational series.

Amal Das, M.D., to discuss hip and knee replacements at Pardee Health Education Center

Amal Das, M.D., with Hendersonville Orthopaedics, will discuss hip and knee anatomy and the procedures for replacing these joints at the Hip and Knee Replacement presentation on Friday, Mar. 30, from 2:30 – 4 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall.

Hip and knee replacements are necessary when everyday activities become difficult and the pain in the hip or knee joints becomes unbearable. Dr. Das will share information about how hip and knee replacements have evolved tremendously over the last four decades.

David Napoli, M.D., to speak about osteoarthritis of the hand and wrist at Pardee Health Education Center

David Napoli, M.D., with Blue Ridge Bone & Joint in Hendersonville, will speak about osteoarthritis of the hand and wrist on Tues., Mar. 20, from 12:15 – 1:30 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that affects the joints when cartilage that covers surfaces of the bones and joints wear out. During this presentation, Dr. Napoli will discuss this condition as well as options for treatments.

WLOS features Footsteps to Fitness

WLOS recently featured the Footsteps to Fitness program on Health Alerts. The program began Monday, Jan. 2, to kick off a new year of healthy lifestyles.

Footsteps to Fitness is a walking program to help keep members of the community active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Participants will keep a log of their walking minutes throughout the year while enjoying various prize incentives. Participants at any fitness level are welcome to join and can walk anywhere they choose.

Breathe Free Support Group now offered at the Pardee Health Education Center

Breathe Free Support Group is a new group that will meet on a monthly basis to cover a variety of lung disease related topics and will begin on Wed. Mar. 14, from 12 – 1:30 p.m.

This new, fun and informative group will cover a variety of lung disease related topics, including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and smoking cessation. This event will be held at the Pardee Health Education Center in the Blue Ridge Mall and registration is not required.

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Roger W. Freed D.C., a chiropractor with Laurel Park Chiropractic Center, will hold a free discussion about the five most common headaches on Monday, Feb. 27, from 12:30- 2 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall.

This discussion will include information about causes of the most common headaches, with an emphasis on tension and chronic daily headaches as well as standard treatment protocols. There will also be discussions on evaluation, conservation treatment procedures and steps to prevention.
