Pardee Hospital ISO Banner Raising

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

Pardee Hospital continues to celebrate being the first and only hospital in the state of North Carolina to receive the ISO 9001:2008 certification. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification is a rigorous process in which a hospital improves and monitors the delivery of patient care, measures quality, and places the highest priority on eliminating errors. ISO standards are used internationally in different fields including agriculture, construction, manufacturing, aerospace, medical devices and healthcare.

On March 20th, with the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, we hosted a banner raising to celebrate this certification. Many distinguished guests were present and a letter from the Governor was read on her behalf. Thanks to everyone who came out to show their support for Pardee Hospital.

TD Bank awards health care grant to Pardee Hospital Foundation’s Women Helping Women program

Friday, February 24th, 2012

TD Bank, through the TD Charitable Foundation, has awarded a $15,000 grant to Pardee Hospital Foundation’s Women Helping Women program to increase Pardee Hospital’s breast cancer screenings and medical care to uninsured women in Henderson County and neighboring communities.

“At TD Bank, our hope is to educate and create awareness about health issues that impact the lives of so many people in our communities,” said Charles Frederick, Western NC Market President for TD Bank. “The Pardee Hospital Foundation’s Women Helping Women Fund has made a significant impact on the community and we are proud to support their efforts.”

This new grant from TD Charitable Foundation will enable Pardee Hospital to screen and care for 45 or more additional uninsured patients in the coming year.

“Pardee Foundation is extremely grateful to TD Charitable Foundation for this grant,” said Sharon Koffman, who chairs the Women Helping Women Committee. “This generous Women Helping Women grant will help remove the financial barriers that prevent many patients from receiving needed mammograms and life-saving medical treatments.”

Pardee Hospital Foundation’s Women Helping Women Fund was established in 1998 to raise funds to help lower the high incidence of breast cancer in Henderson County and neighboring communities. At that point, Henderson County had the second highest incidence rate of breast cancer in the state.

The Women Helping Women program, which has raised more than $1.6 million to provide nearly 1,000 uninsured patients with life-saving and life-extending cancer screenings and medical care, has recorded dramatic results. These funds have enabled Pardee Hospital to increase its breast cancer screenings and medical treatments, which has helped lower Henderson County’s incidence rate for breast cancer, now well below the state average. Grants and funds raised by Pardee Foundation have helped Pardee Hospital purchase mammography, biopsy and other critical medical equipment.

More than 90 people turned out for the Meet the CEO event at the Lake Pointe Landing retirement community in Hendersonville on Jan. 23 to hear Pardee Hospital CEO, Jay Kirby, discuss Pardee Hospital’s plans for continued success in the ever-changing health care climate.

Pardee Hospital Foundation board members and staff welcomed Lake Pointe Landing residents and shared complementary educational materials with attendees before and after Jay Kirby’s presentation.

Highlights of Kirby’s presentation included:

  • Pardee Hospital’s latest accolade as the only hospital in North Carolina to receive ISO (International Organization for Standards) Certification for its top quality standards. Pardee is one of only 40 hospitals in the U.S. that has earned this distinction.
  • Discussion of the community benefits Pardee provides – a payroll of $74 million, annual revenues of more than $132 million, $9 million in uncompensated care, $10.1 million in unreimbursed care, Henderson County’s largest employee giving campaign to United Way and more.
  • An overview of the hospital’s recent community partnerships including the approved Mission Pardee Health Campus in Fletcher and the services Pardee provides through Blue Ridge Community Health Services to underserved patients in Henderson County.

Lake Pointe Landing graciously treated attendees to punch, wine and cheese during the event.

Kirby wrapped up his presentation with a question and answer session.  Debbie Patrick, Pardee Foundation’s director of development and donor relations, and Lake Pointe Landing residents Dana Carpenter, a Pardee Hospital Auxiliary member and grateful patient, thanked the group for attending.  Twenty attendees signed up for one of Pardee Foundation’s popular, by invitation only, Making Rounds tours before leaving.
