Groundbreaking of Health Campus Site

Friday, October 7th, 2011

More than 100 people, including hospital administrators, city and county officials, medical staff and members of the community, were on hand Friday for a celebration that marked the groundbreaking of an  innovative healthcare campus, which will be located at 2651 Hendersonville Road in Fletcher. Today’s groundbreaking was the culmination of more than three years of planning. The 80,000-square-foot outpatient facility, on U.S. 25 at the Henderson and Buncombe county line, is expected to open in 2013. It will house clinical services and physician offices and provide patients with easy access, and high-quality, low-cost healthcare to northern Henderson County and Southern Buncombe County.

Here is a quote from Mayor Bill Moore on www.blueridgenow.com, “This shows you the area is growing,” he told the crowd of local leaders, hospital officials and community members.

Improving customer access to health care is important as the town grows, he added, as “This will bring jobs to the area and create jobs.”

Pardee recognized as Accredited Echocardiography Laboratory

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Pardee has been granted accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories.  This laboratory is one of a growing number of echocardiography laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to be recognized for its commitment to high quality patient care and its provision of quality diagnostic testing.

The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories is a not-for-profit organization and was established with the support of the America Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography to provide a peer review mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality echocardiographic diagnostic evaluation by a process of voluntary accreditation.

Echocardiography is a complex imaging technique that relies on the experience and training of both the physician and sonographer.  Their interpretive and technical abilities determine the diagnostic accuracy of an echocardiographic exam.

The information provided by echocardiographic testing is useful in the detection and management of many types of heart disease.  This noninvasive test has become one of the standard diagnostic tools in cardiology with an estimated 10 million echocardiograms performed annually in the United States.  This is imperative as cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.

Pardee designated as Distinguished TIF Center-Gold :: Only one in NC

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Pardee Hospital has just been designated as a Distinguished TIF Center-Gold (see www.endogastricsolutions.com) and is the only hospital in North Carolina to receive this designation. Pardee is also the only hospital within a 200 mile radius that performs the TIF procedure.

Pardee is excited to announce this designation. Daniel Timmerman, D.O., a local surgeon, performs this surgery and was the first in North Carolina to conduct a Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication procedure, or TIF.

“The TIF procedure can significantly improve the quality of life for our patients,” said Dr. Timmerman.  “Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is an anatomical problem which needs an anatomical solution.  Reflux medication can help to relieve patients’ heartburn symptoms but don’t solve the underlying anatomical problems or prevent further disease progression.”

The TIF procedure is based on the established principles of surgical repair of the anti-reflux barrier, except that it is performed transorally (through the mouth).  The procedure reduces hiatal hernia and creates a valve between the stomach and esophagus restoring the natural, physiological anatomy to prevent reflux.  Because the procedure is incisionless, there is reduced pain, reduced recovery and no visible scar.

“Recent studies show that TIF can reduce patients’ dependency on medications with 79 percent of patients remaining off of their daily medications after two years and experiencing a dramatic improvement in their quality of life,” said Dr. Timmerman.  “With millions of Americans suffering with daily symptoms of reflux, we are very excited to be able to offer our patients the same incredible benefits as other invasive procedures without incisions.”

Pardee Selected For National Nursing Studies

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

On Tuesday, April 26, ten members of the Research Council conducted interviews of all eligible inpatients regarding their prevalence and experience with pain.  Pardee is one of only 100 hospitals selected for this national study conducted by the National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI).  It is the largest study of direct patient interviews regarding their perceptions of pain ever conducted.

Pardee will also be a participant in a national study designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a new graduate RN transition-to-practice model developed and conducted by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.  Only three states were selected to participate, North Carolina, Ohio and Illinois, and Pardee is one of 27 hospitals in North Carolina who will be a part of the study.  A 2004 study in the Journal of Nursing Administration noted that 35% to 69% of new graduate nurses left their jobs within one year.  Data will be collected from new nursing graduates and their preceptors late this summer and one year from now to ascertain if an organized set of learning modules and activities improve the one-year retention rate of new graduates.

They live without pain

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

We’ve just finished an exciting, four commercial, series for the Pardee Orthopedic Center of Excellence. The commercials are simply a conversation between our surgeons and their patients. You may even recognize some of the people. You’ll see Dr. John Hicks and Dr. Werner Brooks from Blue Ridge Bone & Joint. You’ll also see Dr. Amal Das and Dr. Brian Seng from Hendersonville Orthopaedics. You can find other patient testimonials here. We are proud of our physicians and services and it helps that our programs are nationally recognized as well.
