French Broad River Classique Canoe – Race Day

Monday, April 26th, 2010

We were listening to the weather the whole way driving to the 2010 French Broad Classique Canoe Race. With approaching weather the race went off without a hitch and the rain held on for pretty much the whole event. As a sponsor of this race, it was made evident to us by the participants, as to how important health and wellness is and how fun it can be. There were folks as young as 15 to people in their 70s. We saw national record holders, an author and everyone in between. It was a close nit group that shared in the passion for the sport of paddling. We will post some interviews soon, but check out the photos below and you’ll find an amazing culture of athletes, families, and friends that all find wellness from good exercise, the outdoors, and fun.

On the river with Dr. Crane

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Dr. Crane speaks to us about the health benefits of canoeing and kayaking in WNC. With a focus on community wellness, Pardee is sponsoring the 2010 French Broad River Classique Canoe & Kayak Race that is being held this weekend. I went paddling with Dr. Crane to get some insight on a sport that he loves, check out the video below.

Below is where we launched from:

French Broad River Classique Canoe & Kayak Race

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Pardee is sponsoring the 2010 French Broad River Classique Canoe & Kayak Race. This race is hosted by FB Canoe Racing, Inc., a North Carolina nonprofit corporation and is set for the weekend of April 24-25. You still have time to sign-up for the Classique or for The Fun Race.

Canoeing and kayaking are low impact activities that can improve your aerobic fitness, strength and flexibility. They also provide health benefits such as:

  1. Cardiovascular fitness
  2. Increased muscle strength from moving the paddle, particularly in the back, arms, shoulders and chest
  3. Increased torso and leg strength, this from rotating the torso and applying pressure with your legs
  4. Paddling is a low impact activity, this reduces the risk of wear-and-tear on joints and tissues
  5. Kayaking and canoeing can be peaceful and meditative or can be exhilarating

Canoeing and kayaking can be done as a hobby, a competitive sport or as a fun activity. A Canoeing exercise program doesn’t just help you to lose fat, it also helps you to strengthen arm and shoulder muscles, reduce your waistline and lower blood pressure.

And remember that before beginning any exercise program, it is recommended that you should first consult a physician or other qualified health care provider.
