Today is the last day to register for the free Worksite Wellness on a Zero Budget – Stretching a Buck in a Tight Economy workshop led by speaker, Robert Sweetgall.

Thursday, Mar. 15, from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center in the Blue Ridge Mall.
 
Robert Sweetgall will lead discussions that will focus on the easiest, simplest ways to promote physical activity, motivating employees for maximum participation and sustainability, administrative support strategies, rejuvenating “tired programs”, smart incentive strategies, and cost-free action steps for reducing healthcare costs.

Lunch will be provided for attendees.

David Napoli, M.D., to speak about osteoarthritis of the hand and wrist at Pardee Health Education Center

David Napoli, M.D., with Blue Ridge Bone & Joint in Hendersonville, will speak about osteoarthritis of the hand and wrist on Tues., Mar. 20, from 12:15 – 1:30 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that affects the joints when cartilage that covers surfaces of the bones and joints wear out. During this presentation, Dr. Napoli will discuss this condition as well as options for treatments.

Breathe Free Support Group now offered at the Pardee Health Education Center

Breathe Free Support Group is a new group that will meet on a monthly basis to cover a variety of lung disease related topics and will begin on Wed. Mar. 14, from 12 – 1:30 p.m.

This new, fun and informative group will cover a variety of lung disease related topics, including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and smoking cessation. This event will be held at the Pardee Health Education Center in the Blue Ridge Mall and registration is not required.

Suzanne Hall, M.D., to speak about shoulder issues at Pardee Health Education Center

Suzanne Hall, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with Appalachian Orthopaedics, will hold a free discussion about shoulder issues on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall.

This discussion will include information about how shoulders work, as well as arthritis, severe rotator cuff tears, total shoulder and reverse shoulder replacements.

“Early and correct diagnosis of shoulder problems can mean the difference between successful treatment and persistent problems. Many problems can be treated simply.  Learn how your shoulder works and what the warning signs are that indicate the need to see a shoulder specialist,” said Suzanne Hall, M.D.

Roger W. Freed, D.C., to speak about headaches at Pardee Health Education Center

Roger W. Freed D.C., a chiropractor with Laurel Park Chiropractic Center, will hold a free discussion about the five most common headaches on Monday, Feb. 27, from 12:30- 2 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall.

This discussion will include information about causes of the most common headaches, with an emphasis on tension and chronic daily headaches as well as standard treatment protocols. There will also be discussions on evaluation, conservation treatment procedures and steps to prevention.

Footsteps to Fitness featured on WLOS

Pardee Hospital’s Footsteps to Fitness program began Monday, Jan. 2, to kick off a new year of healthy lifestyles. WLOS came out to the Pardee Health Education Center today to meet some of the participants and hear experiences with the 13-year-old program.

Footsteps to Fitness is a walking program to keep members of the community active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Participants will keep a log of their walking minutes throughout the year while enjoying various prize incentives. Participants at any fitness level are welcome to join and can walk anywhere they choose.

Enrollment fee is five dollars for the full year and includes a log book. Footsteps to Fitness  began taking registrations on Jan. 2. Enrollees must register in person at the Pardee Health Education Center.
