Shirley Vernon, RN, a registered nurse at Pardee Urgent Care, has retired after 54 dedicated years of service in nursing.

Vernon has been with Pardee for 23 years working at both the main hospital and at Pardee Urgent Care.  She received her nursing degree in 1957 from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, located in Pittsburg, Pa.  Vernon has worked in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities in Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, and previously served at Kent Nursing Home in Kent, N.Y., before coming to Pardee Hospital in 1988.

Groundbreaking of Health Campus Site

Friday, October 7th, 2011

More than 100 people, including hospital administrators, city and county officials, medical staff and members of the community, were on hand Friday for a celebration that marked the groundbreaking of an  innovative healthcare campus, which will be located at 2651 Hendersonville Road in Fletcher. Today’s groundbreaking was the culmination of more than three years of planning. The 80,000-square-foot outpatient facility, on U.S. 25 at the Henderson and Buncombe county line, is expected to open in 2013. It will house clinical services and physician offices and provide patients with easy access, and high-quality, low-cost healthcare to northern Henderson County and Southern Buncombe County.

Here is a quote from Mayor Bill Moore on www.blueridgenow.com, “This shows you the area is growing,” he told the crowd of local leaders, hospital officials and community members.

Improving customer access to health care is important as the town grows, he added, as “This will bring jobs to the area and create jobs.”

Adult Day Health

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

Here is a letter to the editor of Times-News in today’s paper. Thank you for the kind words Christel. We are very proud of that service. Here is the link.

To The Editor: I don’t understand why Pardee Hospital does not advertise its great adult day care. Calling it Pavilion Adult Day Health Services sure doesn’t tell you that you can leave your loved one there for the day. It serves breakfast and lunch. There is a registered nurse and wonderful caregivers on duty at all times.

In case you want to check it out, it is located at 114 College Dr., Flat Rock, close to the college. The phone number is 697-7070.

This place makes my life so much easier as my husband goes three days a week.

“…dramatically exceeding my expectations…”

Friday, July 29th, 2011

These words of praise appeared in the Times-News on July, 28th.

Dear Community:

The excellent care, medically, as well as “caring” that I received during my recent medical challenge at Pardee, Mission, Pardee Cardio Rehab, Life Care of Hendersonville and the Bridge at Lake Pointe Landing have all been outstanding, dramatically exceeding my expectations. We need to be so grateful for the professional expertise available in this resourceful community. Not only the most highly qualified professionals, but the quality of compassion is beyond comparison. There is no need to look further for superb medical and recuperative care than is offered to us here in Hendersonville and Asheville. My cup runneth over.

Pardee designated as Distinguished TIF Center-Gold :: Only one in NC

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Pardee Hospital has just been designated as a Distinguished TIF Center-Gold (see www.endogastricsolutions.com) and is the only hospital in North Carolina to receive this designation. Pardee is also the only hospital within a 200 mile radius that performs the TIF procedure.

Pardee is excited to announce this designation. Daniel Timmerman, D.O., a local surgeon, performs this surgery and was the first in North Carolina to conduct a Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication procedure, or TIF.

“The TIF procedure can significantly improve the quality of life for our patients,” said Dr. Timmerman.  “Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is an anatomical problem which needs an anatomical solution.  Reflux medication can help to relieve patients’ heartburn symptoms but don’t solve the underlying anatomical problems or prevent further disease progression.”

The TIF procedure is based on the established principles of surgical repair of the anti-reflux barrier, except that it is performed transorally (through the mouth).  The procedure reduces hiatal hernia and creates a valve between the stomach and esophagus restoring the natural, physiological anatomy to prevent reflux.  Because the procedure is incisionless, there is reduced pain, reduced recovery and no visible scar.

“Recent studies show that TIF can reduce patients’ dependency on medications with 79 percent of patients remaining off of their daily medications after two years and experiencing a dramatic improvement in their quality of life,” said Dr. Timmerman.  “With millions of Americans suffering with daily symptoms of reflux, we are very excited to be able to offer our patients the same incredible benefits as other invasive procedures without incisions.”

They live without pain

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

We’ve just finished an exciting, four commercial, series for the Pardee Orthopedic Center of Excellence. The commercials are simply a conversation between our surgeons and their patients. You may even recognize some of the people. You’ll see Dr. John Hicks and Dr. Werner Brooks from Blue Ridge Bone & Joint. You’ll also see Dr. Amal Das and Dr. Brian Seng from Hendersonville Orthopaedics. You can find other patient testimonials here. We are proud of our physicians and services and it helps that our programs are nationally recognized as well.
